This picture is from 2004. Toby was about four months, Leia was the older woman at 6.
How quickly they took over my heart, and my life.
I had a birthday on the 25th; it was my first one without them.
Next week, it will be my first 4th fireworks noise without them.
Some people have pets, and when they are gone, are sad for a bit but they were, after all, only pets.
That's not me. When Leia left my world was spiderwebbed with fractures;
when Toby left it shattered entirely.
All my memories, my daily and weekly habits and meanderings, included them somehow.
when Toby left it shattered entirely.
All my memories, my daily and weekly habits and meanderings, included them somehow.
It's now been six months.
We can only imagine how difficult it was to have Toby and Leia both leave your world so close together. They were such special cats, and the love you all shared was so evident to all of us. We are not the kind of people who see their pets as "only pets," either. Please know we understand, and that we care. Love and hugs.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard - sending big hugs.
ReplyDeleteTBT here: I understand. Skeeter tugs at my heart after 11 years OTB. Yesterday morning, Ayla didn't show up for breakfast and I worried a bit at first and then started to panic. I finally found her just sitting under the bed.
ReplyDeleteWe love them so much that even a thought that something is wrong is distracting...
My human totally gets it. In fact, she didn't mourn her parents deaths the way she mourned her heart cat, Harlot. She still misses Harlot, and she has been gone for 18 years.
ReplyDeleteThey are never "just a pet", they are family and will be forever loved and missed.
ReplyDeleteSuch adorable photos of Toby and Leia. No, they are not "only pets". They are a family and important part of life. Sending hugs to you xoxo
ReplyDeleteGentle husky woooooos, may you all meet again.
ReplyDeleteNuk
Hugs and purrs to you on this remembrance day, and belated Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated bday...dear friend.
ReplyDeleteOnce someone told me, all the 'firsts' are the hardest after a loved one is lost....you lost two. I've truly believe that.
Sending hugs
Cecilia
They are never "just pets" to us here in the CB. We all understand, and we all love our furred family as much as any other member of the family. Someone recently referred to their cat as an emotional support animal..that was on Face Book. I was struck by that- for indeed they are, and what with the love we have for them, not having them by our sides every minute is wrenching. XXOO
ReplyDeleteSome voids just cannot be filled with anything but memories and time. We're thinking of you. 💔
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet photos. Sending you hugs. I wish there were words of comfort to offer, but this kind of pain doesn't seem to go away. XO
ReplyDeleteWow! A picture of when Leia was bigger than Toby! They were so adorable and full of life. I can't even imagine the adjustment you've had to make. I'm torn. After Bear, part of me says I can't go through it again ... but at the same time, it seems like a larger tragedy to not share my life with cats that I love. I guess we'll see.
ReplyDeleteAs everyone in blogville knows there's no such thing as "just pets". I still miss dear old Orbit and it's been a few years. After having them around day and night, night and day they're like our children. I'm a grown man and cried uncontrollably when Orbit died in my arms, and I still get choked up thinking about him and his 22 or so years as my constant companion. You'll be okay, but it is not easy. Cleo and I send purrs and hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry again about losing the two of those lovelies! Just last night I had a dream about a beloved dog who died over 5 years ago and I still morn my kitties too. It can be very hard but in time you'll remember the memories with more happiness than sorrow.
