Sylvina's Brief Adventure

So the other night, my roommate was doing a final tail check before bed. How often we all do that!
And realized she was one short. This kicked off a frantic hour long search for one small cat.

We looked everywhere, including the back yard and in the front. Finally we decided that somehow she must have gotten outside, because where else could she be? She's not the type of cat to hide, she's quite sociable. And then, while roomie was out back one last time, I heard....

a faint meow. And I knew she was inside somewhere.

Turns out, she got herself into a kitchen cabinet while her mom was getting something out of it, and got closed up. Her mom did check all the cabinets, but I guess Syl wasn't ready to emerge from exploring. This was a corner cabinet with murky depths.

She had to endure hugs from both of us after she was found, but did get some treats so I think she was ok with that. I'm profoundly grateful that she did not in fact get out.

In other news...

May I present my newest co-worker, Mr E. Bun? His job is to sit with me at reception and make me smile. He does this quite well, and is very needed. Normally I'm the backup to the backup receptionist, so I'm not downstairs much. But the receptionist is an older lady in the high risk group, so she's on leave for the duration. The second receptionist is working from home now, quarantined after a beach vacation (not sick, just a precaution). So I'm it, and I have to tell you, our callers are getting more and more irate, and impatient with hold times. It's very wearing on the spirit.

  1. We are so very relieved Sylvina wasn't outside. Years ago, in the Dark Ages of our Mom's youth, she also had a kitty go missing. She and Daddy couldn't leave for work because Holly, a Siamese, could be outside and it was dangerous out there. So they both stayed home and tore the house apart. When Holly didn't show up, they started walking around the house, and down the block. They were very upset. Finally, Daddy said he had to go to work. Mom stayed home. She kept looking around the house even though she just couldn't believe Holly had gotten outside. It started to get very warm, so Mom returned to her bedroom to change into a tee shirt, and when she opened the door, guess who popped out? From that day forward, Mom and Dad made sure to keep the drawers fully closed to avoid more Cat Drama.

  2. Oh what a nightmare that was when it seemed she had gotten out. I try too to see if Katie or any of my cats, are visible before I leave the house or go to bed. I have had some terrible times. I know I told you about one. I swear, as I told you, I wanted desperately for it to be OK to call the police. Now that's desperate! :-)

  3. Whew! So glad Sylvania was found. We bet she was looking for treats in that cupboard.

  4. Thank goodness Sylvina was in the cabinet, rather than outside. We're sorry that your job is especially stressful right now. We are thinking of you, and sending all good thoughts your way. XO

  5. I'm glad Sylvina was inside after all! Once I got shut in the bedroom closet. I can only imagine how stressful your job is. People are either nicer these days, or nastier, and a receptionist is often faced with the latter.

  8. Oh Sylvina, what an adventure! I'm glad you could find her and she was not outside! Kitties are so good at slipping into places without being noticed. It's good to do the tail check! Mr. E Bun is very cute. People can be harsh but I hope you have lots of positive things around you. Stay well xo

  9. Once, we closed a closet door on Angel, and she was in there for hours! After that incident, The Hubby and I count tails several times a day. Glad Syl was unhurt (except for her pride at being snuggled!)
I am so very sorry that folks on the phone are being crappy; it's such a freaky time, but I for one appreciate your help.

  10. That sounds like our pre-us sister Olivia. She loved closets and cupboards and never let out a peep while in either. Mom always had to do a major check every morning before work.

We're sorry you're on the end of rudeness. It's too easy for some people to dismiss the fact that they're dealing with a real human being. Yes, it's a stressful time but there's never any excuse for unacceptable behavior. Take care of yourself and stay safe.

  11. Oh that's hilarious. I've gone into closets before when mom opens them and didn't know I was in there. Doesn't she know enough to leave doors open for me? Hmm?

  12. Oh dear me I feel your panic. Angel madi was missing for about 4 hours one time. I had been doing laundry upstairs. She was snoopervising followed me into a closet lurking in the corner I guess. She was not around a 4 pm for her supper. We started looking frantically and calling. I finally heard a faint meow from the closet of her favorite Sissy and BIL's room. Thank goodness Sylvina was found!! Good luck with the front desk?! Folks need to put on their kind hats...
    Hugs Cecilia
