Florida's Great Big Secret

Do you want to know? Are you ready? Here it is: it rains here. A lot. Many summers, every single afternoon. We're a subtropical state, of course we get a lot of rain. Even here in N. Florida. Though lately there has been a bit of a drought.

Here is why this matters today, or really, last night - my roommate went out of town. I agreed to provide inside care for the fur kids, mostly meal service, treat administration and litterbox attendance. No problem. A dog walker was scheduled to show up twice daily to take Brekke for walks.

Last night, it rained. Not even big rain, no hurricane, tropical storm or a storm that is almost bad enough to be a tropical storm. But special snowflake, flaked, and just couldn't bring themselves to come out in this non-torrential rain (here, snowflake can be any age at all). So I had to make three attempts, in cold rain, to get the dog to pee. I'm getting over a cold and still have a congested cough. Let's say that I was.... not pleased.

Brekke has a very nice fleece lined raincoat. I do not have a very nice fleece lined raincoat.

People, when your profession is providing care for living beings, you show up and do that job. It's that simple.

  1. Yikes. Yes, the "special snowflake" should have shown up, regardless. perhaps the "snowflake" won't be hired again!

  2. No work ethic, and it's not like they couldn't be bothered to show up to make coffee...we are talking a living being! Hope you didn't aggravate your cold.

  3. Oh no, I'm so sorry that you had to be in cold rain when you were not well. I hope you get over your cold soon, and that next time your roommate will hire a different dog walker.

  4. Definitely a very fragile snowflake who shouldn't be doing that job if a bit of rain puts them off.

  5. That's stupid that that dog walker couldn't do their job. It's Florida, not California, for one thing, and for another thing, even California dog walkers know that their job continues, even if it is raining.

  7. Well, that’s one flake that should never be hired again.

  8. Imagine what would have happened if you hadn't been there to do that person's job. Wonder how they would have explained *that* to your housemate!

  9. Oh I am so sorry that happened! That is a horrible thing to happen. It shows what kind of person they are.

  10. Oh No...that is a horrible way to do business. Geez no call or anything right? It will be interesting to see what your roommates thinks about this. I recall walking our dog in bad weather. He was a dachshund..the loved snow but his delicate German Body did not like RAIN.
Hugs and hope you are feeling better.

  12. Oh dear, that sounds absolutely miserable. I hate to say it, but I think there are lots of people these days like that.

  13. Dang. That was SO unprofessional of that snowflake!

  14. I would drop that dog walker asap! In Canada you'll have people walking their dogs (in appropriately warm attire) in minus 20 celcius with ice and snow everywhere! You show up! Hope you feel better

  15. Haha. I went to residential treatment twice in South Florida. Just about every afternoon around 4 or 5, it would storm and then be perfectly clear. Of course, I was also down there when Katrina and Rita went through and hurricanes (even Category 1s as Katrina was when it crossed South Florida) are something Northern people have no conception of.
