Oh, the Indignity!

Furriends, I just got back from the emergency Stabby Place. Technically the regular vet charging emergency fees at the regular place, Mom says.

My problem was..... oh my Ceiling Cat, this is so embarrassing.... (covers eyes with paws and whispers) packed stools. And the lady vet did this awful thing to my nether regions. But it worked.

Now I'm turning it over to Mom and heading to my favorite hiding place for some alone time.

Mom:

I was crying last night around 2 am. Anyone who has been a pet parent for any length of time knows that fear. I knew something was wrong. The vet did an x ray, blood work, sub q fluids for what was borderline dehydration and of course, that infamous enema. I do watch intake and output for both my cats, but though Tobers was doing it, he wasn't doing enough.

Next weekend we will be switching to a diet of mixed kibbles and wet food. Toby was 18 pounds, down from 20.7 in Nov. But the bloodwork showed all good things. Kidneys are in great shape.

So he's in recovery now. I just watched him limp by, poor baby. Hopefully he will be completely better by the morning.

  1. Oh, what an awful experience, Toby! But you know what? I am glad that it wasn't anything worse! Binga has had to have that done to her a couple of times and she takes stool softening meds now.

  2. Toby we are so glad that it was something that they could help you with and get you back home to recuperate. We understand we've had this happen to us too.

  3. Aww, Toby, Derry had an enema a few years ago, a baby one (squirt up the butt) and it worked fine. Hope that was the kind you had, nothing invasive. We're glad everything else is okay!

  4. BTW, Derry got stopped up because I had switched the boys to a hairball kibble. Apparently it was far too much fibre for him. I never fed the dry again, not even to my then-stray.

  7. Well, CRAP. That's an awful thing...when Felix was corked up (off and on) I gave him 1/8 tsp Miralax in some tuna juice (or sprinkled on wet food) daily for a month. He passed a couple of mammoth submarines and we haven't had problems since.

  8. Oh, I just saw this! I'm glad to hear Toby is doing better and is otherwise healthy. And my mom hopes you can rest easy tonight. She can empathize!

  10. Oh poor Toby. I can relate. I've had one of those *whispering* enema-thingys. Yuck! But I bet you'll feel better after that. Wet food should help you never have that problem again.
