Shae, Part Trois

This morning I went back there to replenish the buffet. I made a rather nice little house for them, with a piece of foam insulation board cut to fit (that took ages to do) and a lot of straw. Shae was in it, sound asleep. I saw her curled up.

Of course she woke up, saw me, came out and gave me a small hiss. Not the kind that says, I want to disembowel you, just a complaint of being woken. But also, I came bearing food, so I was forgiven.

When she came out, slowly, after the hiss she stretched, butt high. Straw bits on her head, it was so cute. The last time she was in the house and saw me, she shot ten feet away. Today, she was ok with me standing there watching her eat for a few seconds.

And now for the dreaded words: I think she's pregnant. Her belly sure looks that way.

    1. Yes I do. I'm trying to get help with that now. I've reached out to several people and groups. First step, I need the trap.

  2. Oh, I would loan you one of my traps, if we were closer together!!! Offer to donate to a group, if you think it will make the trap-gathering process go faster. Here in Michigan, we cannot trap right now, due to the extreme cold. I know you are doing all that you can to help Shae!

  5. Oh no! I'm glad you are getting her trapped eventually. Such a hard life being outdoors like that.

  6. I am so glad Shae is getting more used to you! It's wonderful what you are doing by helping her out. We can't choose when cats reach out to us--we can only choose how to respond and I think they were lucky to find you!

  7. sometimes local shelters will loan out traps for a week or ten days; without a fee

they do here with the promise the trap comes back clean
    and undamaged etc etc.

we hope everything works out in Shae's favor and the other cat as well ♥♥♥

  11. It all begins with a bit of food ... if you didn't hear the story, this is how Bear and I met. I fed him one time and we were best friends. He was there every morning when my ex-husband left for work. Only I thought he was a girl and named him Lily. I refused to jeopardize the indoor cat I had at the time and tried to shore up my willpower not to bring him inside ... but I lasted a month. I took him to the vet before bringing him inside and the vet thought "she" might be pregnant ... which was clearly disproved when they took him back to shave his belly for the ultrasound. SURPRISE! As an aside, bringing Bear inside and sharing my life with him was the single best decision of my life. Imagine what I would've missed if I stubbornly had said no! If this isn't the case here, that's okay. But sometimes it takes courage and a full heart to make that leap.

  12. Uh oh. Poor thing. (Mom thinks the hiss was more due to that than you--she says she's never met a pregnant cat who didn't get trollish on occasion.) It's sweet you made her a shelter in the meantime.

  13. Uh-Oh! I hope you can get her some help so she doesn't have to have her babies outside. We are lucky where I live to have so many shelters available, I hope you have some good groups in your area. XO

  16. We will hope she is just in need of a vet visit to rid her of worms or parasites and not pregnant. Thank you so much for everything you are doing to keep her warm and fed!
