The Cats Are Smarter Than I Am

.... which will be a surprise to no one who knows cats. I was horribly unsuccessful in trapping my guys, and the rescue is coming by this evening to retrieve their traps. Others are waiting to use them. The first day I put out a trap, it was sprung twice, but without a feline on the inside. My real problem is these guys just aren't that hungry; they come by to graze. I know for a fact they are fed at at least one other house.

Since both are tipped, the urgency is lacking but sadly so is a lot of fur, so I wish I could have gotten them. I can only hope it's just a spring thing and the fur returns.

In other news....

I found Jenny the Garden Cat on Facebook recently, and I am completely smitten with this kitten.
She looks a bit like my Leia, and seems to have a gentle, sweet purrsonality. She was born in or near this garden, and returned recently to see if there was an opening for Garden Cat.. and there was! Jenny interviewed the humans there and found them to be acceptable staff.

This is actually a weather garden for a TV station, and it's beautiful. I wish so much I had something like this; I'm not jealous of people who have luxury cars or big houses with every amenity known to mankind, but I get very wistful over gorgeous outdoor space.

  1. Too bad about the traps. Could be those two just have careless owners--unfortunately, there are folks like that. We checked out the garden girl's page, but since we don't use FB we couldn't see a whole lot. She is pretty.

  3. Darn. Those feral kitties are so often super wise to humans and their intentions. Sorry you did not catch them this time.

Jenny does look like a nice cat. We're glad she found that place and its humans to her liking. :)

  5. Jenny is a pretty girl and has found herself a good home.
It is a pity about the ferals, but at least they are ear tipped.

  8. I understand. Wanting to get their health issue taken care of. It would really bother me too. Wanting to help and not being able to is a special sort of sad.

  9. Those are definitely smart kitties, but somehow they need to be helped. What a beautiful garden kitty! We know what you mean about gorgeous outdoor space. And garden cats make it all the more beautiful.

  10. If they aren't hungry, it's a real disadvantage. Except for The PO'M, who would climb into a trap, just 'cause he'll eat until he explodes. I tried trapping Sweetie so many times, but even hungry, she wouldn't go into a trap. That's why we built the drop trap; works every time, but you've got to be watching in order to pull the string. Here's hoping those kitties shape up now that the weather is warmer.

  11. I'm sorry the trapping didn't work out...this time. I know that must be very frustrating and a little sad.

Jenny is so pretty. I'm going to check her out on FB.

  13. If you get another chance with the traps, you might try talking to the other house that feeds them. If they don't feed the cats, they'll be more desperate for food. But cats are smart, so you know ...
I fed Bear for a couple weeks before I decided to bring him inside, and the day I planned to catch him and take him to the vet, he never came around. I even had the vet appointment! Luckily, he showed up the next day and the vet could see him. I will never forget the stink he raised when I got him in the carrier. He was rocking that thing and meowing so loudly, the whole neighborhood must've known about it.

  14. The housekeeper gets wistful, too, over a garden, especially since our winters are way too long and garden time too short. - Tom x

  15. I hope you are able to try again. And I hope the kitty sees your way of things as it will sure benefit him!
