The Holidays.

We haven't posted much this month. Christmas especially is hard for mom so... We will return sometime in January. We love all of our furriends and hope your Christmas is a most excellent one.

Mancat Monday: Shocking!

My furriends, a terrible, terrible thing happened! Actually it was TWO terrible things

Mom made up the bed without ME!

Mom closed the door to keep ME OUT!

I just... I can't even... how could she? She says she didn't want a 10 minute process to turn into a three hour event. It's true both Leia and I went to sleep for a good long time during the last bed change but so what???

After she closed the door, I laid in front of it till she opened it again.

And then I hopped up on that bed and gave her a serious talking to, believe me.

But then I worried that maybe I was just a bit too harsh, so I snuggled with her for awhile.

After all, one of us has to be the bigger species here.

Finally Friday

Yeaaa!!! It's that day that makes most hoomins very happy, especially our own. Enjoy it, furriends!

I, Leia, am pleased to announce a private showing of some of my finest art - the Chewed Paper.
The special corners edition, you understand. Can't find this just anywhere.

Mom says she sees impressionistic style; *I* say she is an ignorant peasant
because as the artiste here, I was going for abstract.

Hoomins. No culture at all.

It's Tuesday

Mom, I'm so glad you turned the sun back on. Look at me, my orange was starting to fade. We gingers need a fair amount of sun time to recharge our batteries, you know.

Lately it's just been raining far too much.

Tiny Tabby Tuesday - Results Are In!

Excuse me for getting some rest here, it's been a long few days.

Mom said we got the blood work results today - and it's good news!
I don't have any signs of the big stuff, like kidney or thyroid or diabetes.
So yeaa!!

No one told Mom they also did a UA; *I* could have told her but she didn't ask about the stuff they did to me while I was out of the exam room. Hmpf.

Turns out I do have some bacteria but right now they aren't treating that,
just said to keep an eye on my...um...facilities habits. They don't want to over medicate me.

Of course, the cause of my tender tummy is still unknown. So right now we are going to treat symptoms, maybe go on a fun prescription diet.

We want to thank our furriends once more for their kindness, and for caring about me.

Unfortunately, we have to share some very sad news - Caroline, she of the most beautiful blue eyes, has passed to the Bridge. We have followed William of Mass Destruction for quite a few years now, and are heartbroken that she has gone on. Please visit her family if you can.

Happy Caturday

We hope all our furriends are having a good weekend.
Our hearts go out to those in California; Mom says it's rough out there.

This morning we were BOTH cat-handled, shoved into PTUs and whisked off to the Stabby Place.
In the cold, even.

I, Tobers, just went in for my routine rabies vac. and exam. Once again, the mean vet lady said insulting things about my weight. They always do that. Like I can't hear them??  And once again, Mom was informed of how... stern... I was about the behind the scenes visit. They won't even examine me in front of Mom anymore, since I get very, very cranky about the whole thing. I have STREET CRED there now.

Leia was - of course! - once again praised for her beauty and sweetness. (Shrimp-y suck up).
They stole her bloods and sent them off to some lab. We'll get results next week.

We want to thank everyone who helped Leia get to the vet today,
through green papers and/or purrayers.

And now for something totally unrelated to anything with fur:
Check out this awesome video!

Sunday's Update

Yeah, yeah, I know this is pink BUT I am choosing not to care.
It's in the purrfect place to hang out right next to Mom in the office room. I sit or catloaf here a lot.

And yes, technically it IS Leia's, sent to her by her special mancat, Brody.

Speaking of Leia...

We had a quiet week and then last night, she started throwing up again.
It's not bad so far, but it's clear that whatever made her sick before is still an issue.
So we need bloodwork to see what's going on.

I don't want to make a big deal of this in any way but this morning I started a GoFundMe for her. I hate doing this, and I strongly suspect there is no group asked for money more than cat people, but sometimes there is no other choice except to ask for help. Of course, purrayers and good thoughts for her are just as impawtant.

Ok, mom fixed the link, above. This time we supervised her. See what happens when you don't watch your people every second??

Thanks from all of us here.

It's a Monday

Hello, furriends.

We did have a rough weekend. Here you see Leia cuddling with me, and you can see how NOT happy I am about it. But mom asked me to be gracious, since our girl was feeling so badly.
So I put up with it for awhile.

See what a nice mancat I am? I think I deserve a statue or something, don't you?

Mom's note:

I finally got Leia to eat a decent amount Sunday, for her condition. It wasn't easy; I pulled out every trick I've used, plus the ones I've read about. Fried chicken bits and Gerber's Turkey baby food helped a lot. And tonight, more fried chicken, and then finally - finally! - she ate some of her proper Fancy Feast, seafood version.

Joyful, joyful, is the sight of a sick cat finally eating!!

We came closer than we ever have to being in the red zone for that liver disease. I still don't know what caused this; I'm hoping for a simple case of a GI upset. We need bloodwork to determine if it's something else, and right now we just don't have that money to spend but by midmonth I should be able to get that done.

Vet care, especially the 4:30 am variety, can be astronomical. And then you have the sighs and quiet disapproval of the vet staff when you just don't have the resources at a moment's notice.

This episode has made me realize just how much Leia is the heart of this household. Both Toby and I are pretty low-key people. Leia is our spark; even when she refused food she wanted her wand toy.

As of Monday morning, we appear to be back on our regular routine.
Leia asked for food about 9 pm last night, her normal FF; I am so happy about it.

Not Happy Caturday

I knew someone was throwing up - a lot - but I didn't know who until the third day, when Leia informed me it was her doing. I watched anxiously but it never got better. And if she ate or drank,
it just triggered more. A body can only take so much of this.

So around 4:30 am we went to the vet (my regular vet who is a 24 hr vet).
Thankfully, all vitals were good, no evidence of anything nasty.
She had lost almost half a pound since her visit on Oct. 15.

They gave her fluids and an anti-nausea injection.
We will go back mid month for some blood work and see if anything is going on inside.

Best case, it's just one of those things that happen to all of us, and this supportive care has ended it.

When we came back about 5:45 am, Toby was waiting for us.
He was rather confused about it all, since he was deeply asleep when we left.

Please, everyone, have a better weekend than ours has started out to be!

Can't a guy have a little privacy around here??

PS: happy, safe Halloween!

Cat Law PLUS Chewy Review

So, this is the most primo nap spot in the whole house, and we all want it.

One of us gets up, that's it, it rotates to the next.

Sometimes sharing IS permissable, especially if it's chilly enough.
Or you are sleepy enough and just don't feel like moving.

Now, here is today's Cat Law lesson:
When mom has washed the duvet cover, it is ESSENTIAL that at least one cat help her put the bedding back together. She simply cannot do it alone. Extra bonus points if you plunk your bottom right on the white down comforter, too. Always draws raves from the mom.

Or maybe that should be, raving... dunno... whatev.

On to this month's Chewy review!!

We give multiple paws up; we've been eating a lot of this lately.

It's quite tasty, and very juicy. And it's grain free.

Something that surprised mom though - the can is amazingly strong.
We are very used to much thinner, easy to open cans,
but this stuff is pretty tough.

Thank you Chewy, for letting us try another new foodable this month.

**Chewy sends us stuff to try for free, but all opinions are our own.
This is a great company, excellent customer service, fast shipping.

Leia on Caturday

Hi! It's my turn to meow. Like the others, I'm glad to be back.

Honestly though, for me it was pretty much same same. I played with toys, a lot, as always.
I tried to snuggle with Mr Cranky Orange Pants. And looked after mom too.

And no, I didn't see the monsters. I'm not sorry I missed that.

However, we did have to go to the Stabby Place on Monday for boarding.
We ended up getting our power back at 3 pm, and we went in at noon.
That was mom's deadline if we didn't get our AC back by then. It hit 90 that day.

I did NOT like that, not one bit.

I had to get an exam too, but that wasn't too awfully horrible. I was praised for my adorableness, sweetness and uber tininess. And I did get my ears treated, I had a mild infection.

Mom picked us up about 7:30 that night, we were all happy to go home.
She wanted to wait until the sun went down.

Mom wants to give praise for our vet, for being compassionate and
helpful in a number of ways on Monday. She really appreciates them.

Toby and His Monsters!

FINALLY I get to tell everyone what happened! Mom made me wait. Meanie.

So, while we were waiting for the power to come back, Mom had to do something that gave her the heebies - leave the sliding glass doors open pretty much all day and night. And then one night -
THERE WERE MONSTERS on the bedroom patio!

Seriously! **Huge, 10 feet tall, glowing green eyes and dripping fangs!
I HISSED a warning to those things and and and.... it did no good at all.

They were also meanies.

And THEN, same night, ***ANOTHER monster popped up!
Not quite as big but almost as mean and scary and awful.
All of them were eating the leftover food Mom leaves out for the kitteh that comes around.
(She swears no more left over food at night. She doesn't want to feed the other things that come around).

**Raccoons. A family of three, VERY fat ones too.

***Possum. Also quite stout. And not at all bothered by any of us inside. Consumed quite a leisurely meal, at his own pace.

Toby did hiss but he really didn't know what they were so it wasn't as aggressive as if it had been a kitteh out there. He really didn't know what to do.

PS: having trouble commenting, I'm getting endless pages of captchas. Hopefully that will stop soon. We are visiting everyone.

Cat Amazing

Cat Amazing contacted us to ask if we'd like to review their box for them. We said yes!

This is a treat box that is supposed to provide mental stimulation and entertainment.

It really is a nice box, sturdy, well designed, but definitely watch the assembly video to help you!

Unfortunately, as much as Mom really wanted us to like this, we just didn't. I, Tobers, am a watcher, not really a doer, and Leia takes awhile to warm up to new stuff. She just never did with this one.

Mom has had several interactions with the company, and she is really impressed by their drive to improve their product and their heart for cats. They have launched a Kickstarter to fund a new version.

We wish them the very best with their products and will keep watch on their future offerings. We all know how we felines are, one day we are like MEH, and the next, it's the best thing ever. Or the other way around. Never can tell.

*** the box was free for review. Also, when we were sent our box, they also sent one to our local animal shelter. Eight paws up guys!

We're Baacckkkkk

Well, I am. The cats went to the vet today to be boarded because it got too hot.
BUT as we now have power - Praise God! - they get to sleep at home tonight.

Five days without power. Narrowly avoided the fate of Panama City, Marianna and Mexico Beach.
I am beyond tired. The entire experience wasn't horrible, but the bad parts were very, very bad. Without power and a way to really communicate with the outside world, I felt very disconnected, as though I'd lost me. I really wanted my life back.

By the way, those lists they print before a big bad event is coming - what to get - GET IT.
Get more than you think you would need. Some day will be the one where you really do need it.

I missed my blogging friends. I'm glad to be back.

PS: Toby saw MONSTERS! He can't wait to meow all the details later this week.

Quick Update.

We're ok. No power, could be a week. Michael made a huge mess of our City of Trees. Nearly everyone without power.

Concerned about overheating cats. Today and tomorrow, cool weather. Sunday heats up again.

Waiting on a Hurricane

Wednesday at 4:49 am

Michael is due to make landfall this afternoon. Currently it's expected to be a Cat. 4 when it does come ashore. Even at this point, there are still a lot of variables that will affect exactly what happens in my area.

All kinds of words are being tossed around: monstrous, historic, etc. etc. They said much the same of Irma last year about this time. I've done all I can and now there is just the waiting, waiting, waiting. I'm very much like my cats - I like my routine, and would much rather be going to work tomorrow instead of doing this waiting.

Since I have done all I can, I'm starting to wear out on the news reports. It's increasing my anxiety without giving me any more options or resources. It's in God's hands now.

See you soon!!!!

Monday, Monday!!

As you can see, we are relaxing on this Monday, but mom is a bit tense. Apparently there is a hurricane brewing, Michael. Coming straight for us here at Tallahassee.

Or maybe it will land at Pensacola or Panama City. If so, that's the best case for us, but then it sucks to be them. It's very hard to wish a storm goes elsewhere, because we don't want to see anyone get hurt. But we really really don't want it here.

Anyway, we may be missing for a few days starting Wednesday, and if so, the power outage will be why. Please keep your paws crossed for anyone caught in the path.

A Very Special Review!

We've reviewed a number of things here on our blog,
but today's review kicks litter dust over all of them!

Presenting....

Oh, and her mom Ellen helped just a bit too, we hear.

This book has EVERYTHING.

A dramatic beginning,

 a nail-biter middle,
and the big question of will they or won't they,

and finally, the heartwarming ending.

It also has gorgeous and talented illustrations, too. We were very impressed by those.

Prancie, you told your story so well!

This book can be found at Amazon, among other places.

Just in time for Chrissymouse gifts, too.

The Case of the Airplane Ears

Dear furriends,

Last night mom saw my ear innards were looking a little... well... grungy. I tried to tell her I was cool with it and to leave them alone, ok?

Yeah. You already know how that story turned out.

After, I had the WORST case of airplane ears! So I got on the bed to recover, after a good head shake. Mom asked if I wanted to snuggle. I was torn.... I mean, she did this to me, but she's also the one who makes me feel better. So after I changed my mind a couple of times, we did settle down for some quality time.

Still. All is NOT forgiven!

Meowwy Tuesday

Mom wanted to post something funny she saw on an online t-shirt, and we wanted to sleep, so we told her to go for it.

In my defense, the moon was full
and I was left unsupervised.

PS: kittehs, never let your peeps be unsupervised!

Dear Miss Madi

We imagine by now the sad news is flying throughout

Our hearts are broken. We're grateful she was spared the worst of her health issues,
but we were not ready for her to go. Of course, we never would be.

To her family - thank you so much for sharing her adventures with us.
She was an amazing diva, wasn't she?

We send you our deepest sympathies and softest pawhugs.

- Toby, Leia, and Cathy

Sunday - Chewy Review

Yep, it's that time again!

First, we are very grateful to be part of the Chewy Influencer program, so we always feel
bad when we have to report that a product isn't exactly a bucket of primo nip.

However.

We recently got the Tiny Tiger Canned Cat Food.

Chicken, and Turkey n Giblets flavors.

Neither were a smashing success.

We didn't really tell Mom WHY it wasn't so great, but let's just say we were
happy to get back to our regularly scheduled Fancy Feast.

But at least they are grain free. So there's that.

So far we've also reviewed the Science Diet and Taste of the Wild foods.
We were very enthusiastic about the S.D.

And the Wild pate was pretty good too, after the chunks got smooshed down.

But this... yeah, nope.

We hope all of our furriends are having a safe, and dry, weekend.

** Chewy sends us products to review for them, at no charge, for our honest opinion.
We really don't think anyone could ever accuse us of NOT being honest!

Caturday

We here at Whiskeratti try very hard not to let the real world intrude on our blog,
as do most of our fellow cat and dog bloggers. We regard the CB as a haven.

But, the situation with Florence and her destruction is breaking our hearts.

Until about 1.5 years ago, we lived in Fayetteville, NC, which is currently taking a huge beating. Massive flooding, winds, everything is just awful there. We are very grateful to no longer be living there, but we did during that October two years ago when Matthew came through, and we remember.

If you are following the stories, you will be hearing that name mentioned a lot, for comparison. The flooding was intense, for much the same reason as now - we'd already had too much rain by the time he came through.

However, what we really want to focus on are the amazing stories of people coming together, to help each other, and strangers, and most especially animals, get to safety. So many of them!

The Cajun Navy just saved over 70 animals from a pet shelter second floor with the roof caving in, and flooding, at the last minute; how can anything be more heartwarming?

People donated money to help a woman with 7 rescue dogs who was unable to evacuate and wouldn't leave them behind. They are all safe now.

Over 100 people came together to save the town of Lumberton, 20 miles from Fayetteville, from another horrific flooding, as it did in Matthew. They put out a FB call for volunteers to help with sandbags to shore up a low point. And they came.

We live in a time with too much contention, but times such as these not only try our souls, they also bring us together, as one. Bless them all, for doing what they could. No one will see their names in the paper, their pictures won't be shown, they will individually be unknown but what they did as a group will be to the benefit of many. Their reward will be the results of their labors.

And we would like to end with this message for the powers that be:

THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!

Thursday, September 13, 2018

It's Almost Here...

In the last week or so, Mom has noticed that I've been getting up on the couch, with the warm blankie Auntie Mary gave us for Chrissymouse last year. Normally I'm on the back of the couch, if I get up there.

Our temps are just barely below the summer temps right now, but you can see it and feel it anyway. Shadows are falling differently; sunset sets earlier; the sky is a deeper blue.

Fall officially starts on Sept. 23. But we kittehs do not need a calendar to know, do we?

So what is the bestest thing for any feline to do ??

Our purrayers and thoughts are with our furriends, and everyone,
in the path of the big storm out there. Especially Miss Madi.

Stop! Thief!

STOP that woman with the clippers!!

Furriends, it was awful.... my claws were purrfection.

Long, curved, wicked sharp, ready to decimate any introoders unwise enough to breach our perimeters. I'd been growing them most carefully.
Don't let my tininess fool you - I am VERY dangerous!

And then - snip snip snip! She stole them away, littering the comforter with the instruments of my Bast-given superiority.

Sighs. Now I have to start all over. Again.

Guest Post by... the Stuffies!!

Hi everyone! It's us - Lion and Cornelius Croc.
It's been a long time, did anyone miss us??

Well, we've been asked to do a very special review today, because.... well.. the cats have absolutely refused to touch this one at all. And the Lady said we had to do it, so yeah... here we are.

Yep, it's a vacuum cleaner.

A Hoover WindTunnel Pet Steerable, UH72405.

You can see why the felines refused.... but we don't mind.
So let's take a closer look, shall we?

The Lady says this is a pretty nice machine, largely patterned on Dyson tech.
It has multiple tools, and it's the most complicated one she's ever used.
Comes with a HEPA filter, too.

Verdict - it works VERY well.

We have laminate and tile flooring, with one area rug,
but it does its job very nicely, thank you very much.

This is the Pet Turbo Tool. A word of warning... we hear some woofies like getting vaccumed
but DO NOT do that with this tool. The Lady put her hand on it while it was running;
it didn't exactly hurt, but that yellow roller thingie is hard plastic, so it definitely doesn't feel good.

So, yeah, if you are in need of a new machine,
and want something pet oriented, this is a very good choice!

Disclaimer: Hoover sent this to us for free.
We promised to do a review.
Here it is!
